“Miss Imani practice started in, I wanna say November. The
other contestants become like your family, almost. We learned
everything together. We were stuck together three days out of
the week for like, two or three hours every day. They become
your family and your really close friends. I know that even
though the pageant is over, I can still call on any of them right
now and they’ll be there for me. It’s such an experience. It’s
black excellence in a nutshell. Doing this pageant--win or lose-you’re showing that you can get up on stage. You can show
the type of person you are, your roots through the creativity
with the clothes, and your stage presence. It’s a really good
thing to do. It teaches you how to speak publically, how to
dance in front of an audience, and how to just be yourself in
your skin.”
