PRESIDENTS ADDRESS
I
pre昀椀x, much to the delight of my father. In the
early years we would show regularly at some of the
Connacht shows particularly Mountbellew. For
the past 7 years I have attended the ICBF technical
meetings on behalf of the breed to try to decipher
the enigma that is the star ratings.
We purchased our 昀椀rst Simmental cow in 1989
and established the Koilescaul Simmental herd.
At the time my parents wished to use the Esker
pre昀椀x to match their other pedigree 昀氀ocks/herds
but it was unavailable. Luckily last year I received
the permission of original breeder to use the Esker
2021 was another interrupted year due to covid.
We should have celebrated our 50 Anniversary
of the foundation of the breed Society in Ireland
but due to covid restrictions that was not possible.
Following on from the record-breaking sale in Oct
‘20, demand for Simmental bulls last spring was
buoyant, although large numbers were sold prior to
the sales so it was dif昀椀cult to give an accurate price
for the bulls sold. The autumn sale was another
great success. Bulls topped 18,000 and averaged
wish to welcome you all to our 2022
Yearbook and I hope all our members and
associates will 昀椀nd something of interest
within this edition. My name is Emmanuel
O’Dea and I am a Simmental breeder
from Esker, Athenry, Co. Galway. Firstly, I wish
to express what a privilege it is to be elected as
President and on a personally level it meant a lot to
my father PJ who passed away unexpectedly a few
weeks later.
