Fire Science/EMT
Students explore health and safety careers such as firefighting and EMT/
paramedic. Students use medical and diagnostic equipment to perform
detailed medical and trauma patient assessments. Students have the opportunity to earn credentials for EMT-Basic, Firefighter I and Firefighter II.
Marketing & Business Administration
Students learn business operations and decision-making as well as the
efficient use of company resources necessary to work toward the common
goals and objectives that keep a business or nonprofit organization healthy
and growing. Students are prepared for success in business ownership,
marketing, international business, accounting and management. Students
complete a 540-hour work-based learning experience to allow for a dynamic, real-world application of the principles taught in the classroom.
Networking & IT Security
Students learn to build, evaluate, troubleshoot, and maintain computers,
networks, and electronic products and systems by using specialized skills
and equipment to ensure product quality. Students will prepare for the
CompTIA ITF+, A+, and other certifications in computer repair technology.
Programming & Software Development
Students explore Programming and Software Development careers, blending academic and technical subjects that emphasize problem-solving and
critical thinking. Students are instructed in computer programming logic,
visual programming, object-oriented programming, web development and
analysis and design. Successful completion of this program may lead to
internships, industry certifications and college preparation.
Robotics and Automation
Students learn the production processes applied across manufacturing
operations. Students demonstrate a broad array of technical skills with an
emphasis given to quality practices, measurement, maintenance and safety. Throughout the course, students code, compile, and debug programs
using industrial robotic programming language. They also learn engineering standards and methods for technical documentation.
Studio Art & Visual Design
Students learn to produce media for advertising, corporate communications departments, and educational institutions. Topics covered include:
interactive media production, graphic design for production, recording,
digital imaging, digital audio technology, photography. Students will have the opportunity to earn various Adobe industry
recognized credentials.
Teaching Professions
Students, who are looking to become teachers, learn the theoretical foundations of human growth and development from
children to adolescents and how to apply that information,
along with many other factors, into creating age-appropriate
lessons in educational settings. Career planning, professional
guidelines and ethical practices are emphasized as well.
Urban Agriculture
Students gain knowledge of animal and plant science as it relates to the agriculture industry. Throughout the course, business principles and professional skills are also examined.
Welding
The welding program provides training in a variety of areas
such as arc, acetylene, heliarc, and MIG welding, straight edge
cutting, pattern cutting, manual curing, brazing, and general
shop practices. The welding lab is equipped to teach all forms
of welding presently used in construction and industry.
Senior Advance Manufacturing Pre-Apprenticeship
Located at Lakeland Community College, students have the opportunity to
earn their Ohio Apprenticeship Council recognized Pre-Apprenticeship
certificate, which can be applied for up to one year of credit towards the
AWT Apprenticeship program. Students also have an opportunity to obtain
a second semester internship with one of our many local partners and
complete their internship during the school day.
Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC-R)
In partnership with Lake Erie College, HVAC-R combines classroom and
laboratory activities to provide a foundation of the practical knowledge
needed to prepare students for entry level careers in the HVAC-R trade
with a residential or commercial company. Students learn fundamentals of
furnaces, air conditioning units, heat pumps, refrigeration systems, and
welding fundamentals. Students have the opportunity to earn their EPA
608 certification, Refrigerant Recovery Core + Level 1 to handle refrigerants, and also various Lincoln Electric Welding certifications.
Mentor Fire EMT Academy
In collaboration with the Mentor Fire Department, our Mentor Fire EMT
Academy is a 1 year program where students will explore health and safety
careers such as firefighting and EMT/paramedic. Students use medical and
diagnostic equipment to perform detailed medical and trauma patient
assessments and have the opportunity to earn their EMT-Basic certification. This program was developed in partnership with the City of Mentor in
response to a growing need for first-responders in our community.
Patient Care
Patient Care is designed to provide students with the basic health care
skills necessary for an entry-level position in the medical field and provide
an educational foundation for students to continue their education at a
postsecondary institution. Students apply their knowledge and health care
skills in an authentic patient care setting through clinical rotations and
receive at least 75 hours of state approved STNA curriculum through classroom instruction and clinicals.
Microsoft Office
Students learn skills necessary to obtain Microsoft industry-recognized
certifications. Students engage in real-world exercises to exhibit their understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint while they
prepare for certification testing.
