Par琀椀cipa琀椀on in performing and visual arts inspires students’ crea琀椀vity, problem-solving and cri琀椀cal thinking skills.
>> All elementary school students are enrolled in art and music classes that are taught by cer}昀椀ed art and music teachers.
>> Elementary, middle and high school students par}cipate in the PTA Re昀氀ec}ons Program earning state and na}onal awards.
>> All middle school students have the opportunity to take studio art classes including 昀椀ne art.
>> More than 600 Mentor High School students took at least one art class last school year. Students at Mentor High take advanced levels
in many art classes and some earn college credit through AP Art & Design.
>> A College and Career Fair for Visual Arts was hosted by the Mentor High School Art Department for art students grades 8-12. Mentor
High Alumni donated their }me to help put on this event, and represented over 40 businesses and universi}es willing to help educate our
students on college and career possibili}es available a昀琀er gradua}on.
>> MHS student artwork is currently represen}ng our district in the annual House of Representa}ves exhibit in Columbus.
>> State jurors selected MHS student artwork for the Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibi}on in Columbus. Scholarships are o昀昀ered to seniors in this compe}}on by more than 30 universi}es and colleges of art.
>>We provide access for art students to par}cipate and succeed in local, state and na}onal art events throughout the year.
>>Mentor High School students were the 1st, 2nd and 4th place winners of
the 2023 Congressional Art Compe}}on for Ohio’s 14th Congressional District. 1st place artwork is on display in the U.S. Capitol for an en}re year.
>>Mentor High School art students juried into the 2023 Scholas}c Art and
Wri}ng Awards exhibi}on at Cleveland Ins}tute of Art included two Best in
Category Awards, 10 Gold Keys, 9 Silver Keys and na}onal recogni}on.
>>Mentor High School student work was selected for inclusion into the 2023
Na}onal Art Honor Society (NAHS) Juried Exhibi}on.
>>MHS 昀椀ne arts students par}cipate in local and global service
projects including the Memory Project, a non-pro昀椀t organiza}on
that invites art students to create portraits for youth around the
world who have faced substan}al challenges, such as neglect,
abuse, loss of parents, and extreme poverty.
>> Digital Art students won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in Laketran’s annual Bus Wrap Design Contest.
