Student leadership
Pictured above: Mentor High School students are now two-for-two winning Laketran’s Design a Bus Wrap art contest! Leland Kranz, a current junior at Mentor
High School, won first prize for his design entry themed, Cleaner Lake for a Cleaner Lake County. And now, you might see it driving around town! As the top winner, Kranz’s design will be displayed on one of Laketran’s propane powered Dial-a-Ride buses for six months. He worked on this masterpiece as part of the Digital
Arts and Design course at Mentor High School, which is a newer course developed to help students make real-world connections to available careers in the Art
and Technology fields. Laketran was kind to bring the freshly-wrapped bus to the high school to celebrate!
>> At the high school level, students have more than 40 different clubs and
activities available in which to participate.
>> At the middle school level, students have approximately 15 clubs and
activities available in which to participate.
>> The high school has five specialized clubs and activities aimed at raising
awareness surrounding mental health and bullying issues. They are: CARDS
(Caring And Respect Determine Success), PRIDE, GAHTAH (Give A Hand, Take A
Hand), Friends of Rachel and Beauty of Diversity.
>> Each of the middle schools also has a Friends of Rachel club
for students to spread a message of kindness and compassion
throughout the school and community. Many of our
anti-bullying initiatives include peer-to-peer messaging, which
can be a powerful tool. This is reflected in our student-led
Kindness Rallies and Stick Together program, as examples.
>> Mentor High School students lead the Sparkle Cheerleaders program, also
known as Mentor Sparkles. Sparkles is an inclusion cheerleading squad where
students with special needs work with their typically-developing peers to root
for the Cardinals at various games and events throughout the school year.
