Local 1403 Trustee Introduction
A fresh introduction and message from your Local 1403 Trustees: Mark Fabian, Jeff Hackman
and Christopher Hides
As seen in our Local 1403 elections, the trustee position is not
one that is particularly sought
after. In fact, there is rarely an
election at all because of a lack
of candidates. Usually, an individual is appointed to the trustee
position without opposition due to a lack of interest. The
trustee position is not a paid position nor one that brings
privileges or benefits. It is a volunteer position that requires allegiance and dedication to the members of this
fine union! A trustee is the financial eyes and ears to the
members. We are a group of three individuals assembled to ensure that the Local’s officers are maintaining
their fiduciary responsibilities.

This is not an easy task and it requires a great deal of
training. To guarantee that we are performing our job in
an effective and efficient manner, we attend courses designed to assist in honing the skills, duties, and responsibilities of a trustee. Though this is a daunting feat, as
your trustees, we are willing to commit ourselves to the
task and ensure the financial well-being of Local 1403 is
preserved for years to come. We promise to be transparent and honest with all the work we perform for the
members, as well as forthcoming with all our assessments and findings.
Like your other elected members of the union, we are
here to humbly serve the membership with honor and
respect.
A trustee’s primary task is to ensure that all union resources (money/assets) are used for legitimate union
purposes as authorized by the membership, and are expended in accordance with our Local’s constitution and
bylaws. This is accomplished through our spot audits
of Local 1403’s financial accounts and performing more
thorough assessments on a quarterly and yearly basis.
