Morning Briefing
As we close out 2022 and look forward to
2023, I hope that everyone had a wonderful Christmas and holiday season and best
wishes for a blessed 2023. Below you will
find an update to the County’s Fire Watch
rates, as well as a short overview of educational pay incentives and County physicals.
Fire Watch: As of October 1, 2022, the
County updated the Fire Watch rates in IO 7-33.
The new rates are:
•
Firefighters – $56/hr
•
Lieutenants – $58/hr
•
Captains – $60/hr
•
Chief Fire Officers – $62/hr
Educational Pay:
Under CBA article 17.3, firefighting personnel with an associate degree or higher in one the following degrees are approved
for a one-step pay increase:
•
Fire Science Technology
•
Emergency Medical Services
•
Fire Administration
•
Public Administration
•
Emergency Services Management
•
Disaster Preparedness
•
Business Administration
•
Healthcare Administration
•
Biology/Biological Sciences
•
Nursing
In addition to what the Department provides, the State of Florida offers an educational pay incentive for the following degrees:
•
Fire Science Technology
•
Emergency Medical Services
•
Emergency Management
•
Public Safety
•
Business Administration
Field of study that related in a meaningful way to the Fire
Department duties included in the Firefighter’s job description
or another fire department position description that a firefighter
is attempting to obtain.
Additional information on the state incentive can be found at:

paid in the following amounts:
•
Associate Degree: $23.08 per pay period
•
Bachelor’s Degree: $50.77 per pay period
Under CBA article 50.13, Dispatchers and Dispatch Supervisors who receive an Associate Degree or a higher degree in one
of the following degrees shall receive a one-step pay increase:
•
Emergency Management
•
Emergency Medical Services
•
Computer Science
County Physicals:
County physicals are negotiated and stipulated in CBA Article
19.1. It is mandatory for employees to have a physical once
every two years. In odd numbered years, employees whose
last names begin with the letters A-L will have physicals during
their birth month, and in even numbered years, employees
whose last names beginning with the letters M-Z will have
physicals during their birth month. The following tests are conducted during the employee’s physical:
12 lead EKG - Interpreted by a licensed cardiologist when
abnormalities are identified
Complete blood test
Hearing test
Lung volume test
Treadmill stress test if recommended by the examining physician or by the employee’s physician
Other diagnostic tests as required by the Physician
Vision test
Chest X-ray at employee’s option
Toxicology and Alcohol Test
3-D Mammogram upon request will be provided at the employee’s request, limited to one (1) time per employee every
two (2) years.
Hepatitis screening and immunization upon request.
Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) tests will be provided to all
males aged 50 or over and to other males if recommended by
the examining physician. Upon request by the employee, the
test will be provided to those males aged 40 or over.
Heavy Metal testing
Ultrasound Body Scan by body region when recommended
by the examining physician.
Full body ultrasound (to include but not limited to carotid,
thyroid, chest, breast, echocardiogram, abdomen, pelvis, and
scrotum and its contents) will be provided at the employee’s request, limited to one (1) time per employee every two (2) years.
Thyroid Panel test (to include TSH, Total T3, Total and Free T4).
INFORMS Issues:
Our members continue to experience problems related to
INFORMS. It is imperative that you check your paycheck to
ensure that you are being paid properly. If you are having an
issue with INFORMS or have a question about your paycheck,

2023 – 2026 Contract:
We continue to develop our priorities for the 2023 – 2026
CBA. If you have any suggestions, input, or comments, regarding the next contract, please submit them to CBA@local1403.org. The negotiations team will review all input provided. We expect to begin formal negotiations in late January
or early February with an expectation of having a new contact
ratified and ready for implementation on October 1, 2023.
