Sparky Thomson, Ret.
Metro Dade Firefighters President
Retiree Page
Well, as we wrap up another year,
just a couple notes and well wishes
from me and the retired firefighters
of Miami-Dade County.
The Dahlonega Reunion was incredible! Kudos to Jeffery and Jennifer Burns for an amazing job.
While attendance was hampered by
Hurricane Ian, we had a great time.
Our hosts expect that next year’s
reunion will be our largest ever so,
sign-up early for the next one.
Nationwide Update (initially discussed in my last article): I am
currently seeking a meeting with
Miami-Dade County’s Employees Deferred Compensation Plan Governing Committee and their
bosses to find a way for our union member participants and other Miami-Dade County employees
to be able to have a seat at their meetings especially for when they discuss making “adjustments”
or “changes” to our 457 Plans. I understand that
Miami-Dade County employees have almost
$9,000,000 in Nationwide’s fixed account but
have no say in its administration. I have asked
President McCallister to assist me in accomplishing this.
Once again: FACEBOOK!
I am still imploring that any of our retirees who are
not on Facebook to please consider doing so. It is
a free, easy, and fun way to see what’s happening, what events are coming up, how they went
(including pictures) and who has passed away,
including funeral arrangements.
Happy New Year.
Stay safe. Stay well.
