PROJECT MUSHROOM - Page 18

A TOUGH LIFE
MISTY DAY PLANT POTIONS
MAKES A STRONG PLANT MEDICINE
Chaga has a rough time.
It must contend with freezing cold temperatures for
many months and then baking sun for months. In
addition to this, the chaga sclerotium must constantly
formulate phytochemicals to battle bacteria, fungi and
insects to stay alive.
As chaga can take 3 - 10 years to reach harvesting
size and stage, it makes and accumulates many potent
bioactive phytochemicals in response to its difficult
growing conditions.
Chaga, at this time, cannot be cultivated, so must be
harvested in the winter months from live trees. It is
important not to remove the entire chaga mycelium to
ensure the tree and the chaga can survive.
