community
service award
Presented to a Christian broadcaster, radio station or associated professional who,
during the past year, has shown outstanding effort in community service.
KCBI (Dallas)
90.9 KCBI is not just a radio station. Their ministry exists to be a discipleship
force in DFW—a movement of God to communicate the Good News of Jesus’
love and transforming power. The Bible is the center of all they do. 2019 was the
Year of 10,000 Bibles at KCBI. They kicked things off with the second annual Day of 1,000 Bibles and a goal to
distribute 1,000 new Bibles in the New Year. 10,700 more Bibles were placed in four Texas prisons, exceeding
the station’s goal of 10,000 Bibles by putting a total of 11,700 copies of God’s life-changing Word into the
hands of inmates and other community members.KCBI listeners provided sonograms to women in crisis
pregnancies through Preborn Ministries, saving nearly 2,700 babies’ lives, exceeding the goal of 1,800.A record
340 KCBI listeners volunteered for Summer of Service, 7% more than last year. These volunteers worked on
nine Habitat for Humanity projects, prepared 1,800 shoes at Buckner International to distribute to children in
need, and helped Mission Arlington serve many who needed help by sorting clothing, distributing food, and
stuffing back-to-school backpacks. KCBI listeners donated 3,000 new pairs of shoes for impoverished kids
to the KCBI-Buckner Shoes for Orphan Souls DFW Shoe Drive. KCBI’s Prayer Center prayed with 565 people
at six different events, up 16% from last year. Over 10,000 listeners prayed for each other using KCBI’s Online
Prayer Center. And through KCBI’s “Make Somebody’s Monday” feature, listeners were able to bless dozens of
friends and loved ones.
KFNW / Life 97.9 (Fargo)
Matthew 25:40 drives the community service efforts at Life 97.9—“Truly I tell you,
whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did
for me.” The station encourages their listeners to be bold for Jesus in the Fargo/
Moorhead community and to share God’s love. Down Home is a local ministry dedicated to helping women
and children transition from homelessness into permanent housing. Life 97.9 listeners contributed 56 queen
and twin sheet sets, along with an additional $1,800 to help provide new mattresses for children. Life 97.9
listeners gave to the “Valley’s Largest Baby Shower” for the Women’s Care Center in Fargo. Listeners dropped
off hundreds of new baby items last January.Children who have to be removed from an abusive home often
carry nothing with them. A local ministry called Project Ignite Light provides a backpack filled with a blanket,
pajamas, underwear, shampoo, toothbrush, water bottle, flashlight, and the book You are Specialby Max
Lucado. Life 97.9listeners provided 143 backpacks for children in eastern North Dakota. A local ministry called
Fix It Forward repairs cars for free, and gives donated vehicles to those in need. With every vehicle they give
or repair, they provide a winter car care kit, along with a Bible. Life 97.9 listeners helped provide 210 of these
kits. Life 97.9 asked concertgoers to bring toothbrushes to the Chris Tomlin concert for Toothbrush Ministries,
and station listeners responded with 742 toothbrushes and 808 other dental items.
