HISTORY AND LACE
In the 1600s in France, the Sisters of
St. Joseph of Carondelet taught young women
the craft of lacemaking to give them a skill
and profession to support themselves. Today at
the Mount, that same philosophy of educating
women continues so that they may have
meaningful and successful lives. LACE (Liberal
Arts Core Education) describes our curriculum’s
emphasis on empowering our students with
the knowledge and skills to better themselves,
their communities and the world.
