RESOURCES FOR SCHOOL LEADERS
S!
TIP
SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCE. Share your anecdotes from the PD week at MIT to help others visualize
the MIT experience. Can you get time at a staff meeting or staff inset to share MIT culture, the Mens et
Manus ethos, and the MIT Challenges? Are there spaces where teachers gather informally in your
school? If so, consider leaving your MIT binder so colleagues can flip through the materials. Is there a
way you can solicit questions or ideas using whiteboards, post-its, or a question box?
ENGAGE YOUR PEERS. The MIT School Lead is not solely responsible for the MIT Challenges. Are
there people in your school that are especially excited about the NAE-MIT collaboration? Are there
teachers in your school that are willing to try new things or obsessed with the year’s theme? Consider
engaging those ‘champions’ in your planning process.
DEVELOP STUDENT LEADERS. Are there ways that students can take on a leadership role in the
planning and implementing a kick off event, showcase or the challenges themselves? How will you
identify and engage these students? Formally and informally?
ACCESS PARENT/COMMUNITY EXPERTISE. The MIT Challenges represent an opportunity to engage
the larger school and local community. Do you have MIT alum in your parent community? Do you have
parents with expertise in areas relevant to the MIT Challenges? How can you take advantage of this
expertise to enhance your MIT Challenges?
MAKE CONNECTIONS WITH OTHER NORD ANGLIA COLLABORATIONS. Nord Anglia Education has
developed relationships with MIT, Juilliard, and UNICEF. Can you identify ways to bring these initiatives
together? Do the themes overlap or provide some opportunities for synergy?
Staying Connected
Connect with your peers around the world to share ideas, tools, and resources. Here are a few ways to
meet and engage other teachers around the world working on the MIT Challenges.
Professional Development Week at MIT: Teachers who attend MIT for professional development are
well-equipped with ideas for implementing the MIT Challenges. Feel free to reach out to teachers who
attended MIT in 2018 to continue the conversation.
WhatsApp: While at MIT, teachers connected to each other via WhatsApp. Continue these informal
conversations about the MIT Challenges with your peers throughout the school year.
Nord Anglia University: The STEAM Community is a virtual space on Nord Anglia University for all
interested teachers and school leaders. Teachers can access MIT resources, discuss the MIT
Challenges, and share implementation strategies.
#NAEMIT: The #NAEMIT hashtag on social media allows Nord Anglia Education and MIT to see how
schools are implementing the MIT Challenges. #NAEMIT should not be used for general conversations
about STEM/STEAM. Check out the an integrated look of #NAEMIT on the Nord Anglia Education website:
