RESOURCES FOR TEACHERS
Frequently Asked Questions for Teachers
Are there any set times that each MIT Challenge needs to run or be completed by?
In 2018-19 Nord Anglia Education expects all three STEAM Superhero challenges to be completed during the
course of the year. However, who does each MIT Challenge, and when, should be decided by each school.
In addition to the compulsory STEAM Superhero challenges, MIT created three challenges in 2016 (The
Curiosity Challenges) and three challenges in 2017 (Navigating Tomorrow). These MIT Challenges can be
used by any school, at any time, to meet their curriculum needs.
Is it okay to modify the MIT Challenges to better suit our school?
Each MIT Challenge is open-ended, which gives significant flexibility for you to adapt them to meet your
constraints. Because the MIT Challenges are student-led projects designed to be implemented flexibly,
the end products your students create will be unique. Your school team decides how to implement the
MIT Challenges: which students participate, how much time to allot, and when they should happen.
Does each MIT Challenge need to be undertaken by every student in the school?
Nord Anglia Education expects as many students to participate in each MIT Challenge as possible so that
they can get the full immersive experience of the NAE-MIT collaboration, but each school will have to
make the best decision about who does each MIT Challenge based on their own curriculum and needs.
How do I get in touch with MIT experts/personnel for speaking engagement, program support, etc?
Please do not email MIT professors directly. Please reach out to the MIT Program coordinators, Aimee
Gillespie (aimeeg@mit.edu) and Carole Urbano (curbano@mit.edu) for information regarding MIT faculty
and researchers.
How do I fit the MIT Challenges into my already full curriculum?
The MIT Challenges are not additional curriculum. Rather, they are opportunities for project-based
learning experiences that draw from students’ prior knowledge and skills. Your school team can decide
how much time to allocate to the MIT Challenges.
Where can I find a copy of the MIT Challenges?
The STEAM Superheroes binder was given to teachers at the professional development week at MIT in
June 2018; a digital copy is available on the STEAM Community section of Nord Anglia University for all
teachers to access. There are other supporting materials in the STEAM Superheroes Dropbox folder:

Will there be a video to kick off each MIT Challenge (like the videos for the Curiosity Challenges)?
MIT and NAE are always looking at ways to bring the expertise of MIT faculty into each and every NAE school
to engage and inspire students. This could be be through introductory videos but may take other forms.
