JOINT ACTIVITIES
Wayûnders Circle In-Person Members Meeting
The ûrst in-person gathering of the members of the Wayûnders Circle took place in
Ecuador from October 11-19, 2022.
The objectives of the convening included:
¯ Getting to know each other in person to share our experiences.
¯ Deûning together the strategic aspirations of the Wayûnders Circle as a
collective initiative.
¯ Learning and participating in exchange with each other and the Achuar
Nation of Ecuador.
Two people from each Wayûnders Circle member were invited, arriving from across
the globe to be together for a week. The gathering included three days of meetings in
Puembo, near Quito, Ecuador; and three days hosted by the Achuar communities of
Sharamentsa and Kapawi.
Participating Wayûnders Circle members spent their time becoming better acquainted with one another, sharing both positive and negative experiences on land management, and discussing the future of the Wayûnders Circle. In addition to visiting the
territory of our Achuar hosts, members shared and discussed what it means to be part
of the Wayûnders Circle, the identity of the Wayûnders Circle, goals for the future,
communications priorities, and what distinguishes the Wayûnders Circle.
The members agreed that the Wayûnders Circle is a space to share experiences,
cultures, and collective learning and knowledge; as well as shared struggles, problems,
and threats. Members also agreed that the objective includes expanding their
networks across the world and to expand collaborative solutions to collective challenges. The Circle relies on the spirituality of Indigenous Peoples as the root for its growth,
