New Members of Wayûnders Circle
The spirit of the Wayûnders Circle is to expand its inûuence and broaden its horizons
with the aim of including diverse experiences of Indigenous governance and guardianship globally. In 2022 two new organizations were invited to participate.
Hin Lad Nai Community in Thailand
Hin Lad Nai is a small village situated in the valley of Khun Jae National Park
Mountainous forests, a basin part of the upper Mae Lao River system in Chiang Rai
Province, Thailand. There are 20 households with 35 families. The total population is
107 people in ûve clans. All of the villagers of Ban Hin Lad Nai belong to the Pgakenyaw tribe of the Karen group.
Hin Lad Nai is an original Karen community in Hin Lad Nai valley that has existed
for more than 250 years. The community is committed to living together in a sustainable way.
The community cares for an area of 7,600 Rai (1260 Hectares), forest conservation
zone and farm land (coûee, bitter fruit, tea and community forest for livestock). They
are strongly committed to resource management and agroforestry productive systems
(rotational farming practices, non-timber forest collection, livestock, and paddy ûeld).
Hin Lad Nai is strongly committed to their traditional knowledge, belief system,
customary law, and cosmology.
