CONCLUSIONS
Lessons Learned
Exchanges between members provide opportunities for interactions that allow the
Wayûnders members to not only learn about each other9s similarities and diûerences through
stories, methodologies, and contexts; but also to recognize themselves in others and confront
their realities within a globalized and diverse world. Because of these dialogues, regardless of
the range of languages, historical processes, and thousands of kilometers between them,
Indigenous Peoples are able to recognize themselves as connected peoples to identify
common values, common threats, and common strategies among them. Furthermore, they
see great opportunities to learn from one another and improve practices through learning
from other like-minded Indigenous Peoples.
The Wayûnders Circle is perceived by its members as a space to share experiences, cultures,
learnings, and knowledge as well as struggles, problems, and threats with the objective of
expanding networks across the world to ûnd solutions together for collective challenges.
The Wayûnders Circle relies on the spirituality of the people as the root for its growth.
Wayûnders are creating strong spaces of spirituality, sharing what they know to be sacred
while recognizing the importance of elders, women, and young people as guardians of
sacred legacies. This sacredness is connected to all that exists in nature and all that
surrounds us. Wayûnders members note that these sacred unwritten practices need to be
transmitted to other generations.
The diverse problems faced by Wayûnders Circle members are signiûcant, and often are
a direct response to the growing economic value of their natural resources. Globally, Indigenous
Peoples sustain some of the healthiest and most biodiverse environments on our planet, on
which their lives and the continuity of their culture depend. However, they continue to face
challenges such as exploitation of extractive resources and land degradation that directly
aûect Indigenous food systems and put their way of life at risk.
