In 2019, Nia Tero, the Council of Elders of the World Union of Indigenous Spiritual Practitioners (WUISP),
and Pawanka Fund proposed to establish a partnership under the Wayûnders Circle to elevate exceptional
territory-based leadership by Indigenous Peoples in the seven Indigenous regions of the world that are showing alternative pathways for human societies to strive for ecological, economic, social, and cultural harmony.
The aim is to ensure Indigenous Peoples9 rights to self-governance, and control over their lands and territories.
