OUR 135 th YEAR
President’s Welcome
Welcome to the 135th Sandwich Fair!
Families have always been an important part of the fair.
Most organizers, exhibitors, and vendors rely on family to
help make the event successful. An example of the positive
impact of Fair-families is our beautiful Horticulture Building
which has been supervised by the Wagner family since 1947.
Louis Wagner served as a Superintendent from 1947 to 1984
and as a Director from 1955 to 1985. His son, John, became a
Director in 1973. John stepped down this year after 50 years
of dedicated service and ambassadorship to the Sandwich Fair.
John’s daughter, Krissy Ross, was appointed to the Board of
Directors, which means the Horticulture Building will continue
under the direction of the Wagner family for 76 years and
counting.
We are saddened to share that Harold Dannewitz passed away
in July of this year. Harold was in charge of electricity at the
fairgrounds since 1991 and served as a Director since 1994.
Volume 47 Number 1 • Nelson Publishing, Inc.
He was instrumental in many of the improvements to
our infrastructure and worked tirelessly to maintain
and improve the fairgrounds, electrical systems, and
campgrounds. His role in leading patriotic ceremonies,
such as the raising of the flag and September 11th
memorial, will especially be missed.
This year we are proud to introduce our refurbished
ticket booth. We have moved and updated our original
fair ticket booth which was built in the late 1800s. In
1974, it was moved to the west end of the grounds
where it sat dormant for a few decades. It has been
refreshed and will welcome fairgoers on the east end
of the grounds.
Please join me and my family and enjoy the very best of
Americana - The Sandwich Fair 2023!
