CORONA DEL MAR HIGH SCHOOL
ROBOTICS & ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Course Code: KT370/371
Year-long, 10 credits
UC/CSU approved “d” or Science
Robotics and Artificial Intelligence is a specialized and innovative course where
students continue their learning in the growing field of mechatronics, advanced
robotics systems, programming in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Students research and design “intelligent” robotic systems that solve real world problems by learning and refining their skills in mechanization and control, sensors,
machine learning programming in Python and data collection that leads to logic
and predictive outcomes. Students will complete an introductory course on Artificial Intelligence that involves small coding projects using Python machine learning.
Students will complete the course combining their skills of 3D printing, robotics automation, Arduino and circuits, sensors, Python machine learning and AI concepts
to design an intelligent robotic arm that can utilize sensors to predict behavior and
outcomes. Students will also have opportunities to complete certifications in Python programming and Solidworks.
Prerequisites: Electro-Mechanical Engineering
Certifications: Python & Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA)
ADVANCED DESIGN ENGINEERING
Course Code: KT373/374
Year-long, 10 credits
UC/CSU approved “g” or Electives
Advanced Design Engineering (ADE) is the capstone course in the Mechatronics
engineering program. It is an open-ended engineering research course in which
students work in teams to design and develop an original solution to a well-defined and justified open-ended problem by applying their knowledge of engineering concepts and skills. After carefully defining the design requirements and creating multiple solution approaches, teams of students select an approach, create,
and test their solution prototype. Upon culmination of their prototype, teams will
present and defend their original solution to an outside engineering panel. While
progressing through the engineering design process, students will work closely
with experts and will continually hone their organizational, communication and
interpersonal skills, their creative and problem solving abilities, and their understanding of the design process. Students will also have opportunities to complete
certifications in Python programming and Solidworks.
