In this course, students will learn the developmental stages of children from conception through early adolescence, including the major theories of development
and their application. Focus is on empathy/psychological, cognitive, and physical
development, and on the influence of heredity and environmental factors. Included are the theories of multiple intelligence and current brain research.

In this capstone course, students will explore the field of early childhood education
and the role of the educator, and examine the underlying theoretical principles of
developmentally appropriate practices as applied to early childhood education
programs and environments. The course will focus on child growth and development, health, safety and nutrition, teaching strategies, and curriculum. After initial
classroom instruction, students will intern at local preschools or child care facilities.
Prerequisites: ROP Child Development; Must be 16 years of age to participate
Certifications: American Heart Association Basic Life Support & AED
