WEDDING GIFT FOR PRINCESS ELIZABETH.
Subject:
In
being taken
occasion of
own use and
October, 1947, the Premier verbally approved of action
for the presentation to Princess Elizabeth on the
her marriage, of three sets of rugs and blankets for her
200 pairs of blankets for distribution in England.
The rugs and blankets for Princess Elizabeth's own use were
despatched by air in three packages on 8th November and the blankets
for distribution, by sea on the 12th December. Advice was subsequently received from the Agent-General that two of the packages
for Princess Elizabeth had arrived and that he had delivered them to
a representative of Her Royal Highness. A letter of appreciation was
subsequently received from Princess Elizabeth.
Inquiries with regard to the missing package were instituted
in London and in Sydney,' and advice has now been received from
Qantas Empire Airways that exhaustive inquiries have not resultAri in
the location of the package which must be rearded as lost.
The Agent-General was asked on the 23rd January to advise
as to precisely what part of the consignment did not arrive in
England but no reply has yet been, received and a cable has been
addressed to him. Until his reply is received it will not be
possible to determine what part of the presentation has been lost.
Accounts totalling £693. 0.0 have been received in
connection with the present.
