Inquired of Mr. McGrath of Mark Foyis
Woollen Mills as to the I/3d. rebate on
manufactured woollen goods.
It appears that manufacturers in
Australia of woollen goods for sale and use
in Australia are paid a subsidy by the Commonwealth based on the grade of the raw materials
used.
Should it be proposed to export any
article on which the subsidy has been paid,
the exporter is obli ed to rebate to the
ommonweal an amount equiva en o t e
subsidy paid in respect of the wool used.
An export licence for such goods will
not issue unless a certificate is presented
from the Australian Wool Realisation Committee
indicating that the rebate has been assessed
and paid or that it has been waived.
Preliminary inquiries of the Government
Stores Department (Mr. Ferguson, Ext.605)
indicated that the rebate was waived by the
Australian Wool Realisation Committee. Definite
advice will, however, be furnished later this
week as to the actual position with regard to
the rebate.
