Water Police Magistrate, 1830–
The Judge Advocate's Bench of Magistrates, presided over by him and
held in his offices from the time that they were erected, met from Feb
1788 until the promulgation of the Third Charter of Justice in 1824 when
the office of Judge Advocate was abolished and new courts were
constituted. In fact this bench seldom met after 1818.
The earliest proceedings in 1788 were signed by Governor Phillip. These
papers include the meetings of the bench at Rose Hill (Parramatta) from
7 Oct 1789.

Miscellaneous summonses issued,
recognizances entered and petitions
received, 1801–14
This bundle contains summonses issued to the
Chief Constable, petitions requesting mitigation
of sentences imposed, depositions, petitions for
maintenance in bastardy (including affidavits
certifying parentage), recognizances to keep the
peace and for appearance; and notices of
intention to institute proceedings.
Working papers, 1816–1824
This is a collection of small bundles, each of
which corresponds to a single meeting of the
Bench. They consist of summonses issued to the
Chief Constable for people to appear before the
Bench each day, some informations and
depositions, weekly returns of the price of wheat
and other produce at the Market (in order that
the Bench could determine the weekly price of
bread). These returns are all addressed to Judge
Advocate Wylde.
