NRS 906
Supreme Court Sydney and on circuit —
Session returns of persons tried and
convicted, 1825–1910
*ARK to 1825
The returns record name of prisoner, condition,
(native born, ticket of leave, free by servitude),
offence, verdict, judgement and alteration or
commutation approved by the Governor and
Council. From Nov 1833 whether the jury was
civil or military is also noted, and later the name
of the Judge and his recommendation.
There are frequently two or three copies of each
return. The reason for this is that one copy
probably came from the Colonial Secretary's
Office and another from the Supreme Court.
Other copies are noted as having been sent to
the Principal Superintendent of Convicts or the
Council. The loose returns have been left
together for convenience of searching and
comparison.
