Courts of Quarter Sessions
Quarter Sessions were established in 1824 to act as an intermediate
court between the Courts of Petty Sessions and the Supreme Court
which heard the most serious cases punishable by death. In 1858
District Courts were established to hear civil cases.

The volume records dates of sittings of Quarter
Sessions and for each case: name of defendant,
number of case, nature of charge, notes whether
Bill found true in law, verdict and (if applicable)
sentence. In some cases the plea of the
defendant is noted.
