Proclamations, Orders and Notices, 1 Dec 1821-19 Dec 1825
Volume [4/424] comprises copies of Proclamations, Government
and General Orders, and Government Public Notices issued by
Governor Brisbane and Lieutenant Governor Stewart. Included are
the Proclamation of 11 August 1824 notifying the appointment of
the first members of the newly constituted Legislative Council and
a subsequent Proclamation, of 18 May 1825, notifying the
appointment of new members.
Returns of the Colony (`Blue Books'), 1822-57
These volumes record the progress of the Colony from 1822-57
and comprise a wealth of statistical information, including revenue
and expenditure, taxes and duties, military and public works,
population, imports and exports, exchanges, weights and
measures, churches, schools and scholars, agriculture and
manufactures, grants of land, gaols and prisoners, pensions and
legislation. One of the most useful sections is the annual return of
public officials which provides details of situation and service.

Among the information contained in these volumes are the
following —
Legislation (1832-57)
Schedule of all laws, proclamations etc issued during the year
under review. Each schedule shows date of law, summary and
date transmitted to England.
Council and Assembly (1836-57)
Returns of members of the Executive Council and the elected
and non-elective members of the Legislative Council. The
returns show name of person, when elected, whether holding
any civil or military office. In case of elected members of the
Legislative Council the district which the member represents is
also shown. From 1856 members of the Legislative Assembly
are included in the returns.
Political Franchise (1855-57)
Each return includes conditions of franchise, name of electoral
division, number of elected representatives, number of
registered electors, number of voters at last General Election
and the date of last General Election.
