Deeds, wills, leases etc, 1826-1903
Among the various other documents included in this bundle are
four Imperial warrants, dating from 1836 to 1846, appointing the
following non-elective members of the Legislative Council: the
Bishop of Australia, 1 December 1836; Captain Philip Parker King,
3 August 1839; James Macarthur, 24 October 1839 and Henry
Watson Parker, 19 October 1846.

Item [4/7333] comprises returns giving name of officer; date of
appointment; by whom appointed and under what instrument;
period during which each held the situation in the year
aforementioned - from, to; salary; whether office held in
conjunction with any other; date of first appointment under the
Colonial Government; whether absent from the Colony; and,
amount of other pay or allowances.
All of the returns list the officers of the Council — the Clerk of the
Council, Serjeant-at-Arms (1844-55), Usher of the Black Rod
(1856), copying clerks, messengers, housekeeper, doorkeepers
and so on. The 1844-55 returns also include the Speaker and the
Chairman of Committees, both of whom were members of the
Council and were elected by the Council to these positions; the
1856 return still includes the Chairman of Committees but not the
President as he was not a paid officer.

the Governor and the Executive Council, under the 56th clause
of the Electoral Act 7 Vic No.16, to issue the Proclamation which
has been recommended declaring the validity of Mr Benjamin
Boyd's election as the Port Phillip Member of the Legislative
Council, 5 October 1844
• papers relating to the appointment of Henry Watson Parker as a
non-elective member of the Legislative Council vice Edward
Hamilton resigned, December 1845 - May 1846.
