This is a return to an address from the Legislative Council of
27 July 1853, ordered to be printed by the Council 20 September
1853.
The Council asked for a return of the names of all members of the
Legislative Council holding appointments under the Government,
pecuniary or honorary, on 1 August 1843, as well as of those
members who had pecuniary or honorary appointments conferred
upon them by the Government since that date.
The printed return specifies the name of the member, if a nominee
or representative and date; nature of pecuniary or honorary
appointment; if pecuniary, amount of salary and date of each
appointment; if appointment was conferred before or after the
appointee was a member of the House; and remarks.
Also included are working papers relating to relevant members
and their appointments.
Governor's and Colonial Secretary's Minutes and
Memoranda

Many of the Minutes for the 1840s and 1850s are originals,
duplicates or copies of despatches from the Secretary of State to
the Governor. They mainly differ from the despatches in the series
Governor: Despatches, circulars and cables from the Secretary of
State and the Under Secretary, and copies of despatches to the
Secretary of State, NRS 4512, by the correspondence and other
papers which are often included with them.
1844 Minutes — M6304
Minute M6304 is a copy of Secretary of State Despatch No.1 of
4 January 1844. This Despatch, referring to the Governor's
Despatch of 18 July 1844 (No.113) in which the names of the
public and unofficial persons appointed as the non-elective
members of the Legislative Council were reported, transmits
additional Instructions approving and authorising the
appointments made. A copy of the Instructions is included.

Also with M6304 is a copy of a Separate Despatch from the
Secretary of State dated 5 September 1842, in which was
transmitted a warrant (enclosed) delegating the power to
nominate and designate the non-elective members of the
Legislative Council to the Governor.
1849 Minutes — M8069
Topnumbered as M8069 is a copy of the Secretary of State's
Despatch of 14 August 1848 (No.140). This acknowledges receipt
of the Governor's despatch of 17 March 1848 (No.61), in which
was forwarded a memorial from the inhabitants of Sydney praying
