Included are papers relating to: notices for insertion into the
Government Gazette; insufficient number of Justices to form a
court; appointment of assessors; notification of names of
assessors; requests for printed forms and requests for information
for guidance of the Court of Assessors.
One of the more interesting papers is a petition from various
qualified electors of the Cumberland Boroughs that
William Howe Esquire the senior Magistrate residing in the
Police District of Campbelltown will in all probability be the
presiding officer in such Court and that from the strong and
marked manner in which that gentleman has on several
occasions identified himself with the interests of Mr William
Bowman (one of the Candidates for the Said Boroughs) it is
thought by your petitions that in justice to Mr Fitzgerald (the
other candidate for the said Boroughs some gentleman who is
not identified with either Candidate should be appointed to
assist in the revision at Campbelltown. (CSIL 43/3673)
1843 Election - Returning Officers

Returning Officers and of Deputy Returning Officers although some
papers relating to the appointment of Polling Clerks are included.
Accepting and declining appointments, notifications about
appointments, requests for instructions and for the name of the
Returning Officer for a particular Electoral District form the bulk of
these papers.

This bundle mainly comprises letters from Returning Officers
acknowledging writs of election, and after the election, returning
the writs and reporting the name(s) of the elected member(s). The
results of the voting for a particular Electoral District are
sometimes given. For example, for the County of Durham Electoral
District, the Returning Officer has noted that Richard Windeyer
received 122 votes, William Ogilvie 71 and Andrew Lang 55.
