Surveyor General and the Superintendent of Port Phillip, advised
on an adherence to the 141st degree of east longitude. The
Council, however, in agreement with the importance of clarifying
the limits of the two colonies, recommended the appointment of
Commissioners to lay down the boundary line.

Duplicate Despatch No. 50 of 28 May 1845: the Secretary of State
forwarding a copy of a despatch from the Governor of South
Australia concerning the imperfect manner in which the eastern
and western boundaries of that Colony are presently defined and
suggesting fresh boundaries, together with a copy of the Secretary
of State's reply ("without amending the Statutes 5 & 6 Victoria
Chapters 61 and 76 and without altering the Commission of the
Governor of New South Wales, the proposed change in the
Boundaries of the two Colonies could not be made"). The Governor
was requested to report his opinion on the alterations proposed.

The Governor replied in Despatch No.91 of 29 April 1846.
1848 Despatches
Box [4/1327] contains two despatches which relate to the South
Australia/New South Wales boundary question Duplicate Despatch No. 80 of 17 May 1848: after acknowledging
receipt of the Governor's despatch of 8 January 1848 (No.7), the
Secretary of State announces the establishment of a boundary line
between the Colonies of New South Wales and South Australia,
and encloses a copy of the Proclamation of the Lieutenant
Governor of South Australia on that subject. Earl Grey also
conveys his approval "of the care with which this work appears to
have been accomplished".
Despatch No. 105 of 30 June 1848: referring to his Despatch
No.80 of 17 May, the Secretary of State advising the Governor
that he had informed Sir Henry Young about the desirability of
losing no time in carrying on the survey to the Murray River.
