A brief statement of the case put to the Minister relative
to the establishment of a Group School is appended*
Attention was drawn by the Mayor to the fact that for
some time the accommodation at the Milton Public School has been
inadequate. The weathershed has been converted for use as a
classroom whilst 40 pupils are housed in a Salvation Army Hall
some distance away from the school.
Mr. Davies spoke in support of the establishment of an
Area School at Milton. The Minister stated that the building at
Milton speaks for itself - the residence as well as the school
are in need of replacement. He said that there is no doubt that
both Ulladulla and Milton have been passed by, Mr. Heffron said
that quite apart from the Group School matter, improvements must
be effected immediately. He said that he could see the need for
definite additions to be made with the shortest possible delay*
The Minister added that whatever can be done as a matter of great
urgenc will be done and that temporary accommodation will be
erected as soon as it is humanly possible.
It had been brought to the Ministerts notice that home science
and technical instruction is not available for the children at
Milton because of the lack of accommodation.
Mr. Heffron assured the meetine that he was in agreement
with the residents so far as the need for the establishment of an
Area School was concerned and gave an assurance that provision would
be made once the location of the school has been determAned. The
remark made at Ulladulla was repeated - namely, that he would have
Mr. Staff Inspector Hindmarsh visit the District in the course of
a couple of weeks.
The Minister was unable to sive any assurance or guarantee
concerning the matter of the erection of the Group School building*
He stated that he could not forecast how long it would take to have
plans drawn ai contract let and finally completed.
