Pitt St. and he went over to where he left the car which was
then missing and he asked several people there if any or them
had. seen anyone take his car and could get no stisfactioL
fr,Q.1 them. He save the name of oi_e man that was there and
said he went to his garage and told the people there the car
was missing and I asked him why he did not come to the detective
orrice and tall us and he said he was looking for the car and
thought he ought to report it at the garage.
He was asked.
if /1,Pd know the man again who asked him to have a drinh in
the hotel and he said he would not. I said to him "It appears
to me that you allowed the car to be taken this day four weeks
for the same ,Aurpose as it was taken to-day".
He replied. "No,
I did. not".
He was kept in the cfrice for some time, I think
till about 11 or 11.30 ana allowed to go. Twiss was questioned
there in my presence and Senior Constable Thitehair was present
and. I asked. him "Why did you not make soma effort to retain
the box that contained the money", and he said he hadn't time,
"The man came up to his and. said HI want that box it's mine"
ana lie said the man had something in his hand but he couldn't
say what it was. I said "If ne was taking your watch ana
chain or your own money would you make an effort".
He Balk.
"ILat's a different thing, I certainly would"..
I said to him
"Did. .:311 tell any person that this robbery would be committed
in the way at was done by a man coming in a motor car and
bailing them up", and he replied "Something was said like that
by ....—"

He was kept there till about
11 p.m. and made several staezients which I'd rather not
mention just now and eventually he was allowed to go from the
Redfern Police Station.
In consequence of further inquiries
they were both brought to the detective office yesterday and
both denied knowing each other or ever having seen each other
before.
Twiss again said he aid not tell the railway
employees or a4ybody else that the robbery could be easily
effected the way it was or that he was going to leave the
