4 name is Kate Leigh. I am a married woman living apart from
my husband at 371 Elizabeth Street. I have a restaurant,
I know Sichel well, Have known him about 6 years, I have a
place in Devonshire Street as well. Mrs Sichel was a neighbour
of mine, Michel lived there too. I know the vacant block
of land opposite the Adelphi Theatre. I know "Bronco George"
I remember him being assaulted at that place. I can't say the
date, I know it was on a Thursday night, I went to Rosman
that dai yI went over to tell mother that my brother was in
Darlinghurst Gaol. I azked her if she was coming with me on
following Saturday to vivit him. I stayed there for tea.
I came back t Sydney ,was living in Devonshire Street aty
the time. Coming back I had an appointment at the hotel
opposite the place where the assault was committed. That is
how I remember the night well, When waiting for the tram
was talking to Mr Barnes the detective. ley friend came up,
we were talking together. Ur Barnes left. I saw Bronco George
get hit from the back, I could not bay where. Another man
snatched at his chain, There were two men. I could not say
whether he got the chain or not. I never saw any more, 4y
friend and I got on the car and we went home, I saw the two
men who assaulted Bronco George. We were standing on the
kerbing, The assault took place quite close,about the length
of this room. I could not say whether there was a third man,
The man who snatched the chain was not unlike Sichel t but it
was not Sichel. Neither of the two men was Sichel. I could
see
the faces of the m en. This was either a little before or a
little later IO. p.IL I was up at the Gaol on the Saturday
following when I was telling some people there about the
