Not everyone will be able to come to the parish church to celebrate
Lenten Evening Prayer, but this does not prevent the parish from
being creative and perhaps setting up a group to pray together in
the afternoon. Or School staffs might be invited to join together to
pray this, so that the whole Catholic community is engaged in the
prayer of this Lenten journey and this new moment for the Adelaide
archdiocese. There will also be a number of parishioners for whom the
best option is to pray Evening Prayer at home, or to share it with just
one or two others who are homebound.
Members of the Office for Worship and the Diocesan Liturgical
Commission have prepared this Lenten Prayer, which will last for about
45 minutes. We will begin on Wednesday 24 February and conclude
on Wednesday 24 March. Our Lenten journey will continue with
the celebration of the Chrism Mass in the cathedral on Monday, 29
March. Even though there may still be limited numbers able to attend
this Mass, every parish will be represented and it will be a celebration
of the entire diocese, Archbishop, priests, deacons, religious and the
lay faithful.
I urge you to grasp this wonderful opportunity to gather in prayer
within your local community as together we journey through the
weeks of Lent. Let us strike a new flame in hearts that have endured a
year of COVID-19 and yearn for a new and positive moment that will
indeed rebuild the Church.
Your brother in Christ
