Bishops has an understandably proud rugby tradition:
the school was instrumental in bringing the game to
the Cape; the Springbok jersey is green thanks to Barry
Heatlie; and dozens of ODs have played international
rugby – most for the Springboks, but some for other
nations. From Theo Samuels, who scored the first try
for South Africa, via the likes of the TwentymanJoneses, the Frys, Carolin, Gentles, Whipp, Boome,
Fleck, Vickerman and our two Rugby World Cup
winners, Abbott (England) and Louw (South Africa),
we get to Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu. Pictured here
kicking for South Africa “A” in 2022, he represents the
next generation. Long may the tradition continue.
