Mike Wright (2014B) – who also features in our news roundup on p18 – found himself in a few
peculiar situations while interning at Netwerk24 last year. This photograph, taken in Auckland Park,
depicts a bystander in front of what was once a local tuckshop. Although it was raining, the fire
han interview, Mike pulled over and – through rain, steam and flames – captured the moments
before the fire department arrived. According to reports, nobody was injured in this incident.
Voted by US Surfer magazine as one
of the 20 best surf photos for 2019,
this shot of Noordhoek beach by
Ant Fox (1994G) originally appeared
as part of the “Perfect Day” feature in
Surfer Volume 60, Issue 3. “This wave
isn’t usually so perfect in March,” says
Ant. “It’s rare to have west swells and
a southeast wind. It can get crowded,
but when it gets over a certain size,
the crowd thins out. I shot a collection
of images over two days. The tricky
part about surfing here is that it’s quite
sharky: in my last three sessions, I was
chased out twice by a great white!”
