hat’s the connection
between Tom David
(2011B) and Thabang
Skwambane (1993F)? Or between
Thabang and Mark Shuttleworth
(1991W)? Or Mark and Jean
Tresfon (1992F)? Or Mark and
Rob Adam (1972F)?
The respective answers are:
the Aluwani Foundation;
Thawte Consulting;
Hugo Leggatt;
The ability to specialise at
an exceptionally high level
in two distinct disciplines,
which has allowed both Mark
and Rob to operate in their own
unique spaces and so achieve
profound success.
For more detail, read this issue of
The Old Diocesan. In the process,
we hope you will be impressed
not only by the achievements of
the remarkable Old Boys we’ve
included here, but by the sense
of interconnectivity that runs
through these pages. As Brandon
de Kock (1986K) puts it in his
profile of Thabang, the “real
value of a Bishops education is
often less tangible than a matric
certificate: it’s the relationships
formed, connections made
and insights gained.” Bring
together some stories of ODs
in a publication like this and
suddenly that reality becomes
tangible. Here is the real effect
of a Bishops education.
Besides ensuring regular
interaction with the ODs, one
of the guiding intentions of this
magazine is to try to enhance
those relationships, connections
and insights, and encourage ODs
everywhere to make use of our
community to its fullest potential.
So, please: make a connection.
Give us feedback; tell us what
you’d like to see. Get your fellow
ODs to read the magazine. Let us
know about your old classmates
who are taking amazing
photographs or are changing
the world somehow, somewhere.
In the meantime, we hope you
enjoy being part of the family.
