Why is too much acid bad news?
In their natural state, the bodily fluids have different pH values. Stomach
acid can have a pH as low as 1.5 because it takes acid to digest food,
especially animal source foods. Whereas the pancreas sends fluid with a
pH value of 8 into the intestines in order to neutralise the acid from the
stomach.
In contrast to this, the fluid between your cells – the extracellular fluid
– must be slightly alkaline, and same thing goes for the blood. The fluid
between your cells can endure a certain pH fluctuation, but the blood’s
pH level must remain constant. If there is danger of the blood becoming too
acidic, the body will extract alkaline minerals such as calcium and magnesium from bones and tissue in order to neutralise the acid immediately. And
the more acidic you eat and live, the more alkaline minerals and salts will be
taken from the body’s resources, which creates a negative spiral. Here’s how:
