SUSTAINABILITY & GDPR VALUES

trusted supplier.
The effect is spreading: organisations realise
their used IT equipment has a monetary value
and an environmental consequence. This realisation combines with data privacy concerns,
making companies seek more sustainable
growth. With our circular economy credentials,
they have been turning to 3 Step IT for help. We
have been building our reputation as a reliable
remanufacturer with robust processes, and the
trust is underpinned by our new ISO certifications.
Remarketing is the third step in 3 Step IT’s business model: we handle customers’ used devices,
erase their data, and refurbish or recycle them.
Our remarketing centres deliver the Product Life
Extension part of the circular economy.
Certified and unified
In mid-2017 our sites were certified for ISO 9001
(quality), ISO 14001 (environmental management) and ISO 27001 (security management) on
group level. Certification required considerable
investment in systems and processes.
In 2017, remarketing production grew 30%. Earlier leasing success helped, with devices returned
after 3-4 years’ use. The fastest growth came
from smartphones: a new category of devices to
handle with our assured data erasure processes.
Given the way 3 Step IT’s smartphone life cycle
business has started to grow, the remarketing
production they require should soar in the years
ahead.
Historical lease performance with devices flowing through to remarketing in a predictable way,
gives us the confidence to invest in remarketing
capacity. We will open a new facility in Helsinki
early in 2018, and later in the year we will expand our Swedish remarketing centre. We will
also update and standardise our IT systems to
improve operating processes and offer a trading
portal. We will grow remarketing, exploiting a
newly competitive edge built on a foundation of
robust ISO-certified processes.
We also grew our ‘buy-back’ business, purchasing the used equipment that organisations plan to
replace. More than ever, with GDPR approaching,
customers value the assured, ISO-certified, data
destruction included in our remarketing process.
More circular thinking
Sweden and Finland lead our remarketing efforts, partly because our lease portfolios are
largest there, and also because of a heightened
awareness of the need for sustainability. New
customer relationships demonstrate these concerns: a large global consultancy firm will sell us
all their used equipment; we began a pilot with a
major retailer, and a car manufacturer started to
place business with us.
