THE CHANGING
SUSTAINABILITY CONTEXT
countries where we operate. Working with specialists, 3 Step IT commissioned its own sustainability report, which will follow the internationally
accepted Global Reporting Initiative framework.
Reporting from three perspectives, our report
will give a snapshot of the sustainability of our
operations at the end of 2017:
One of the megatrends shaping our strategy is
climate change and resource scarcity. Of course,
climate change is a very long-term trend. What’s
new is that over the last few years the certainty
and confidence of the scientific predictions has
grown. So people care, and their politicians respond. Environmental protection laws and regulations change, and so does society’s behaviour.
Society is daily becoming more concerned with
how waste is handled. Having the circular economy at the core of our business, our efforts promoting sustainable IT solutions are earning wider recognition for 3 Step IT and our sustainability
credentials.
Economic responsibility: direct and indirect
economic contributions, and our anti-corruption standards.
Social responsibility: this considers the employee perspective (our employment practices, their development and their satisfaction),
and the customer perspective.
Sitra, the Finnish Government’s innovation think
tank, organised the first World Circular Economy
Forum and invited 3 Step IT to participate as a
speaker. Separately, Sitra highlights 3 Step IT as
a beacon of excellence for ‘product life cycle extension’, one to the circular economy business
models. We won the Leasing Life sustainability
award, with the judgement that “sustainability
lies at the heart of what 3 Step IT does.”
Environmental responsibility: our services,
the way we operate, and our criteria for partner selection.
Our sustainability report will be published separately. More important than the end of year snapshot, the report reveals ways we can improve
during 2018.
Society’s growing environmental concerns, and
commercial sustainability standards are a tail
wind for 3 Step IT to exploit. It is integral to our
strategy that we take full advantage of this trend.
Up to now sustainability has been seen as ‘nice to
have’, perhaps a purchasing department would
use sustainability credentials as a tie-breaker
when awarding a tender to commercially similar
bids. Now this is changing. Nordic countries are
introducing taxes on waste, so the sustainability of our offering becomes an absolute requirement. Invitations to tender increasingly make
demonstrable sustainability a requisite: potential
suppliers cannot respond to a tender without
proving their sustainability credentials.
