know: from local services through
to emergency contacts, everything
is covered, and residents have all
the information they need in one
handy place.
COMMUNITY SUPPORT
The committee has also formed
strong ties with the wider
community,
businesses
and
Council, assisting members with
planning, buying and selling on site
as well as access to a local solicitor
who often provides free services
for members.
Negotiating discounts with local
traders has also proved to be a
popular benefit for neighbours too.
Members also step in when
neighbours have difficulty managing
day-to-day. More alarming were
instances of residents being
discharged home without the
correct level of formal support
and often no local family to help
out. Working with Social Services,
Care
Agencies,
Occupational
Therapists, Community Nurses and
local Doctors surgeries, they were
able to access more appropriate Christmas 2017
care and ensure the safety and
well-being of their neighbours.

Summer Fete 2017
Whether it’s taking neighbours to
medical appointments; helping with
shopping or just a helping hand,
the committee can always find
someone to help out.
A few years ago gaps were noticed
in the more formal care of older
residents.
After much building of trust, one
of the first things that came to
light was the number of people
who were not aware of extra
monies they were entitled to. In
one year alone, they managed
to help fourteen residents gain
access to Attendance Allowance
which provided them valuable, non
means-tested additional income.
