TRANSFORMING FOR
GROWTH IN THE UK
3 Step IT is one year into a three-year plan
to invest to grow and transform its UK
operations. The new country leader Jason
Skidmore looks at the progress made.
As part of the agreement, the university
can use our Asset NG portal to see who is
using what equipment, allocate costs, and
plan replacements. When they move into
their IT refresh cycle, our portal simplifies
device collection, data erasure and replacement.
2017 was a period of exciting change as we began to build a team to model 3 Step IT’s values
and become a leading force in IT life cycle management in the UK. This is one of Europe’s largest
technology markets, so there is almost unlimited
growth potential. Recognizing this, the company
is making a strategic investment in a three-year
development plan.
The university also liked the clarity of our financing offer. They worried that other providers might
lead them into ‘silent extensions’, by default. With
3 Step IT’s straight forward contracts it was clear
that there were no hidden costs. This level of
trust is a key advantage.
Step by step
Building new relationships
With such a large market, we are very specific
about where we focus first. In 2017, the priorities were mainly the public-sector, especially educational institutions, and professional services
companies, especially accountants and legal
firms. We have taken a lead from 3 Step IT’s performance in these sectors in Finland and Sweden: we learned a lot from our colleagues there,
and now we are applying those lessons to our
approach in the UK.
In the professional services sector, we’re already
dealing with nine of the top 100 law firms in the
UK. This established presence gives us a solid
foundation to grow in 2018. In another part of the
sector, we started working with a global bank. In
this new relationship, we acquired 5,000 devices
from for data erasure and remarketing following
our newly ISO-certified processes.
While developing the education and professional services sectors, we have also been exploring
the potential the IT sales channel offers. With
around 6,000 of these resellers in the UK, we’re
focusing on the top 50. As this is a proven route to
market in Scandinavia, we will be modelling their
approach as we develop these business partnerships.
This focus is already yielding results: we won
our first deal with a major UK university. Spread
across four different campuses, the university
found it difficult to manage its IT operations in
a balanced way. Investments were being made
on some campuses, but not on others. So they
turned to 3 Step IT to standardise equipment
quality and bring a common approach to life cycle management throughout.
