At UCT we take the safety of our staff and
students very seriously. Sadly, crime on campus
is a reality, especially when it comes to theft.
But there is a lot that you can do to protect
yourself and your belongings.
T
ake the quiz below to figure
out how many of these safety

When you’re at home, do you:
check that your doors and
windows are locked when
you leave?
take your valuables with
you when you go home
for holidays? Better safe
than sorry.
put
your home address on your
key ring? Don’t! You’ve just
made it easier for the criminals
to help themselves.

hide your keys in obvious
places, like under the doormat?
Rather make friends with your
neighbours so that you can
look out for each other or leave
a spare set somewhere safe.
keep
a record of serial numbers
of valuable items, such as
your laptop? These can be
a lifesaver if you have to report
a stolen item missing.
