Jumping side to side, “I target her head,” cackling with an evil, penetrating laugh, “or sometimes
it lands on the same dress she wears,” said Tomas.
“That same dress. She wears that SAME ONE –all the time,” remarks Ana.
“I think she has a second dress,” said Gabriela.
“TWO DRESSES,” holding up her fingers. “Come on, we will be ready for her.”
Elena sees the six tennis shoes walk back towards Avenida Niños Heroes.
BANG! BANG!
Two water balloon lands on the edge of the sofa, drenching Elena’s hair.
“Why did you do that?” asked Anna.
“I HAD TO THROW IT AT SOMETHING,” yells Tomas.
“I’m down to my last three balloons. I told you that we are going to get her from the roof,” she
remarked.
“So what? Race you back,” says Tomas. “I brought a fresh bag. Nothing like a moving target.”
Relieved, she sees the black tennis shoes race around the corner – with the sound of Ana and
Gabriela fade as they run down Donato street.
Turning to the animal, “I am going to get you out,” hearing it struggling to breathe.
Scrapping her stomach on the pavement and wiggling out, darting across the street to Taco Tres
Hermanos.
“Juan,” petrified, out of breath, “there is an ANIMAL in the couch,” Elena says.
“Elena? What happened to your face? – There is dirt all over you.”
“I crawled,” said Elena shaking, “please I need your help. It’s barely breathing,” wiping the
dirt and the dust off of her dress.
Juan put down his broom.
“WAIT!!! I NEED SANTIAGO AND MATIAS, TOO!”
