In the 1950’s, newlyweds Warren “Bullet” and Peggy Kirk Bell, an LPGA champion and the first woman inducted
in Golf Magazine’s World Golf Teachers Hall of Fame, took ownership of Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club.
Peggy’s vivacious personality coupled with the challenge of Ross’s 7,000+-yard course attracted big name players
and tournaments to the resort. Today, Pine Needles is the only course in the country to have hosted four U.S.
Women’s Open Championships.
An integral part of Pine Needles’s success is its Golf Academy. The Academy features an expansive state-of-the-art
Learning Center located on 20 acres dedicated to instruction. It includes 80 hitting stations, four practice greens,
five bunkers and a four-hole short course called The Loop. It’s host to multiple golf schools throughout the year as
well as the popular weekend and weeklong Golfaris originally created by Peggy Kirk Bell.
