ADDRESSING KNOWLEDGE
GAPS & BARRIERS STUDY
Plastic Oceans fosters a collective of civil society leaders, known as BlueCommunities, who
are proactively spearheading context-specific solutions within their respective communities.
These civil society leaders represent a total of 24 local-level communities from the Global
South and 23 from the Global North. In 2021, extensive data was gathered through a series of
focus groups and interviews aimed at identifying knowledge gaps and barriers impeding the
implementation of viable solutions.
