Howard County is a great
place to live, work, play, and
grow–and the best county
for all in the region.
From the historic towns of Ellicott City, Elkridge,
and Savage, to the dynamic communities
of Columbia and Elkridge, to the rural
neighborhoods of Woodstock and West Friendship, there is tremendous
opportunity and prosperity across our county.
Columbia and Ellicott City have frequently been ranked as one of top ten best places
to live in the U.S. This recognition is in part due to our many open green spaces,
diverse local businesses, community safety, thriving restaurants, and incredible arts
and culture scene.
The pandemic changed every aspect of our lives and encouraged more people
to spend time outdoors. Here in Howard County, we have engaging, accessible,
and inclusive parks and playgrounds. Be sure to check out some special places
around Howard County, including:
BLANDAIR REGIONAL PARK
The nearly 300-acre park has a new one-of-a-kind ‘Play-For-All’
Playground, bocce ball and croquet courts, horseshoe pits,
a picnic pavilion, and so much more.
Stroll along the two-mile lake loop, rent a canoe for a serene morning
on the water, or enjoy the new inclusive playground in Centennial North.
ROCKBURN BRANCH PARK
Hike or bike along the 9 miles of trails, and if you’re daring, check out
the BMX skills track. Or grab a group of friends and play the 18-hole
disc golf course and enjoy a picnic lunch in one of our pavilions.
Enjoy wildlife along the 2.8 miles of intersecting trails in Savage,
and after swinging on the new playground, stop by the nearby
Savage Mill for shopping and dining.
SCHOOLEY MILL PARK
Among the many parks in the county for relaxing, this open space
has wetlands, woodlands, and meadows, and features a newly
expanded cricket field.
As County Executive, my goal is to ensure Howard County is the best place for
all our residents, businesses, and visitors. With the help of this guide, I hope you
explore the many ways to experience Howard County. We look forward
to seeing you around the neighborhood.
