Live Like a Local
Al Fresco
Moving to a new area can be both
exhilarating and overwhelming, but
we ’ d like moving to Howard County
to be stress-free and exciting.
To help with the transition, we’ve got your
guide to something HoCo locals love—leisurely
enjoying the great outdoors! Whether you’re
dining al fresco or experiencing the endless
opportunities for outdoor art, you’ll get a
chance to take in the new scenery and live
like a local.
There’s something extra special about dining
outside. The fresh air, the picturesque views,
and the chance to bring along your beloved
pet can make for a perfect evening. Set on
the former site of the 1950's Enchanted
Forest Theme Park, White Oak Tavern elicits
fellowship and camaraderie over handcrafted
food and pints. Whether it’s an old favorite or
something you’ve never tried before, we hope
you relish your experience here. To continue
with the spectacular sights, the outdoor
dining area at Alexandra’s American Fusion
provides amazing views of the Turf Valley
Resort golf course. Their classic comfort food
and seasonally inspired dishes pair perfectly
with the stunning scenery. Ranazul serves
small plates with a Latin twist. The bistro’s patio
is a perfect setting for your next happy hour
or family dinner, while the string-light-covered
patio at Dive Bar & Grille is ideal for romantic
date nights. Experience a delicious meal and
a signature cocktail while you enjoy live music
and other events.
Howard County also has several
opportunities for you to experience music
and art outside. See your favorite musical
artist at Merriweather Post Pavilion, an
amphitheater nestled in a 40-acre forest in the
heart of Columbia. The music venue has hosted
some of the biggest names in entertainment,
spanning all genres, including Jimi Hendrix,
Florence & The Machine, Willie Nelson, and the
Foo Fighters, to name a few. The Chrysalis at
Merriweather Park is an awe-inspiring work of
futuristic urban art serving as a concert stage
among the trees. The open-air venue hosts
concerts and other events, and provides a
unique gathering place for the community.
And for a truly one-of-a-kind art experience,
explore DoodleHATCH–a pretend department
store for fictional characters from fairy tales
and other worlds! The hands-on art exhibit will
spark the imagination of children, toddlers, and
the young at heart.
