Y Inform the visiting teacher about the specific
needs of the pupils in the classroom
Y Assist with set up of classes (have projector
turned on, ask pupils to have resources
ready, possibly display their names on their
tables, etc.)
Y Make the visiting teacher aware of the
school’s routines and times, and any relevant
policies, including acceptable usage policies
Y Help the visiting teacher identify links with
other subjects and strands
Y Suggest useful classroom resources and
classroom management techniques that you
find helpful
Y Prepare a space to display pupils’ work. This
could be both inside and outside the
classroom
Y Join in and learn/try with the pupils,
participate in activities and games
Y Assist the visiting teacher with classroom
management and with supporting pupils
who might need help
Y Make connections with other subjects and
strands. As you teach other curricular areas,
make connections with the learning from
the module
Y Help pupils to reflect on the importance of
languages in appreciating diversity

Y Suggest and agree on a timetable with the
school

Y Discuss suggested cross-curricular links with
the class teacher
Y Make sure to have sent any links or request
for resources to the hosting class teacher in
advance
Y Inform the class teacher about the activities,
resources and strategies that you will use
Y Ask what facilities you may use (PE hall,
outdoor space, etc.)
Y Learn pupils’ names (maybe get them to
choose a typical name in a different
language and/or design a display of their
names)
Y Communicate resources needed in advance,
e.g. projector/internet/photocopies etc.
Y Ask for and embrace the hosting class
teacher’s help during the lesson
Y Display pupils’ work in the classroom and
outside corridors
Y Involve the class teacher and any other
teacher or SNA in the lesson
Y Pay attention to the class teacher’s verbal
and non-verbal cues
