#ThinkLanguages Champion Team. Alongside the TY
coordinator and MFL teachers, this team of students
organises and promotes the event within the school
and to the wider community.
There is a wide array of live workshop facilitators that

What happened on the day?

The main day for #ThinkLanguages was 22 November
2021. However, events took place right up until midDecember. Supported by PPLI, 150 schools nationwide
put on their own celebration of languages and cultures.

Opening ceremony
The opening ceremony was pre-recorded so schools
could access it at a time that suited them. A mix of
young speakers with different backgrounds (including

sports and humanitarian) were chosen to appeal to the

widest possible audience. We also included the student

National quiz
For the first time, there was a #ThinkLanguages national
quiz. Schools logged in and competed against other
schools nationwide. It brought a fun and interactive feel

to the event and helped to highlight that it was
occurring across the country.
Guest speakers and live workshops

Schools invited guest speakers to talk about languages
- Mural competition -
at third level and using languages in their jobs. As well
- EIL 3 month abroad scholarship competition -
as that, students and staff members put on their own
- ELC 3 week summer camp competition -
workshops to share their personal experiences. PPLI also
arranged live workshop facilitators to visit schools,
including some members of the core PPLI team. These
ranged from Portuguese and capoeira to Irish sign
language to Chinese workshops.
